New opportunity: Festival programme coordinator (freelance)
Festival programme coordinator (freelance)
A great opportunity for a creative events producer to help programme a popular science and art festival
This is an ideal role for someone with experience coordinating large-scale public events, and working with scientists on creative ways to engage the public with complex topics.
The Great Exhibition Road Festival is an annual two-day summer festival of science and art led by Imperial College London, in collaboration with the Natural History Museum, the V&A, the Science Museum, the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal College of Art and various other institutions around Exhibition Road in South Kensington. The Festival is taking place on 15 and 16 June 2024.
The main part of this role will centre around programming festival zones on Imperial’s campus. These will mostly consist of Imperial teams of scientists and engineers whose initial proposals for creative exhibits, artistic workshops, live experiments and engaging talks have been accepted by the Festival management team. Your role will be turning these initial ideas and ambitions into engaging and public friendly spaces and programmes of content where festival attendees of all ages can have a memorable and unique experience learning about Imperial science and discussing research with Imperial researchers. In addition you may be required to support on other Great Exhibition Road Festival programmes.
To succeed in this role, you’ll need to be comfortable balancing your time supporting multiple teams and keeping them to vital production deadlines. You will need to have experience coordinating the logistical and operational components for large scale public live events like a festival (e.g. carrying out briefings, coordinating set up, risk assessments approval, production schedules oversight, equipment ordering, floorplan design, planning the visitor experience and allocating signage and wayfinding) , as well as the ability to critically and creatively input into exhibiting teams' ideas to improve the outcomes for public attendees and the exhibiting Imperial teams alike.
