The future of surgery: From keyhole surgery to robots in the operating theatre
Join Lord Ara Darzi, Professor of Surgery and co-director of the Institute of Global Health Innovation, together with members of the Hamlyn Centre for Robotic Surgery at Imperial College London, for an exploration of how the field of surgery has evolved from the early innovation showcased at the Great Exhibition of 1851, up to the present day, and how the current team of engineers and doctors are developing the next generation of surgical technologies.
As part of a live interactive session, we will explore a forward-looking overview of some of today’s trailblazing innovations that will fundamentally change how surgery is carried out in the coming decades, including demonstrations of new medical imaging techniques, sensor technology, surgical robots and augmented reality, which will enhance the field of surgery, for example, in performing operations more safely, or training in carrying out new types of ground breaking surgical procedures.
