A row of flasks in a fridge filled with green liquid

Event schedule details

Saturday 7 June and Sunday 8 June

12.00–18.00

Event location details

Exhibition Road

Synthetic biologists are redesigning tiny living organisms to tackle global challenges, giving them all sorts of new abilities. In the fashion industry, synthetic biologists are exploring algae as a sustainable resource for textiles, offering biodegradable fibers and dyes, and potentially revolutionizing fashion with eco-friendly alternatives to traditional materials and dyes.

At the Great Exhibition Road Festival, Imperial College London's Centre for Synthetic Biology – in collaboration with SynBioUK, Biodesign Collective, and LifeFab – will present an array of algae-produced textiles before giving you a chance to extract your own vibrant pigments. Younger visitors can compete in a Tiny Microbial Hero card game before designing their own super-microorganism game card.
