Uncover the powerful techniques that reveal the hidden world of materials and how their structure shapes performance. Our journey begins with diffraction, the key to unlocking the double helix of DNA, as we explore how the interaction of light and matter has transformed science. Building on these same principles, we showcase cutting-edge applications of diffraction in developing next-generation technologies—shedding light on the internal structures of advanced energy materials that drive innovation.

Come and join The Centre for Doctoral Training in Advanced Characterisation of Materials, in partnership with the London Centre for Nanotechnology, to dive into the world of Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), a cutting-edge imaging technique that reveals materials at the nanoscale with astonishing precision.

Through interactive games and hands-on activities, visitors can explore the fascinating structures of nature, create crayon rubbings of textured surfaces, and engage with 3D-printed models. By exploring the remarkable world of materials characterisation we illuminate how material science, nanoscience, and nanotechnology are driving solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges—from revolutionizing healthcare to advancing sustainable energy and environmental protection.
