Beit Quad, Imperial College London

Join textile artist Angela Woii (@sextilesart) and Imperial College London’s Women’s Health Network for a playful, hands-on sewing workshop exploring the fascinating world of the vaginal microbiome!

Pick up a petri dish, choose your fabrics, and stitch together a unique, beaded blend of bacteria and immune cells. Add a magnet, and take home your own microbiome-inspired textile art for display on your fridge.

While you bead and sew, chat with Imperial researchers about how the delicate balance of bacteria in the vaginal microbiome influences health. Just like the gut, the vagina has its own thriving ecosystem—some microbes protect, while others can cause issues. This interactive session will unravel the science behind this often-overlooked part of the body in a fun, creative way.

Visitor information

This is a drop-in event that is open to all genders and is suitable for adults. The workshop takes place in a zone for people 18+ only. People younger than 18+ will not be allowed entry into the building.

No sewing experience is necessary as the steps are easy to learn and we have options available for creating without sewing involved.

This workshop is on the first floor, access is via stairs or a lift. Accessible toilets can be found on the ground floor of the building.
