Design your own facepaint and see if your face art has what it takes to fool facial recognition technology.
“Face paint protests” against facial recognition algorithms in surveillance have taken place in various cities in recent years. Facial recognition systems rely on analysing the unique features and proportions of a person's face - like the distances between eyes, nose, and mouth. Painting patterns, shapes, and unnatural colours on the face adds visual noise, making it hard for the algorithms to analyse the face properly.
Imperial College London’s Department of Computing invites you to go undercover against the latest facial recognition tech. Design your own facepaint protest and find out more about how these facial recognition algorithms work. Then either cut out your design and wear as a mask or hand over your design to one of our face paint artists to recreate it on your face.
