Ping Mu

Ping Mu (China, 1994) is a new media artist as well as a graphic designer, currently working and living in Shanghai. Ping received her MA in Experimental Communication from Royal College of Art (2020). Ping’s art practice is broadly connected to this information era and the cyberspace she lives in. But compared with regarding the Internet as a medium, she is more interested in exploring a sense of transition in time scale and a sense of mismatch caused by the invasion of technology into life. And this mismatch covers the social system, production structure, emotional communication and ethics. Ping is used to criticizing social reality by combining satire, dark humor and speculative fantasy, thus encouraging the audience to question the structure of the existing world.

Ping Mu's digital fantasy was inspired by conversations with Dr Emma Lawrence and Dr Lindsay Dewa at Imperial College London. They are working on the impact on mental health in the UK of digital charity Mental Health Innovations' ‘Shout’ tool, a 24/7 digital text line service supporting people in crisis.
