Meet the curator: The Royal College of Music Museum

 

From never-before-seen Mozart concerto manuscripts to the earliest known guitar and oldest stringed keyboard instrument, the latest museum to open in South Kensington celebrates musical creativity and craftmanship.

Built during the pandemic, the Royal College of Music Museum opened last month with an exhibition of 60 instruments and musical artwork spanning five centuries. Together these first pieces, selected from the Royal College’s collection of over 15,000 objects, explore the creative process from the birth of a new musical idea to its realisation through craftsmanship and performance.

To celebrate the Museum’s opening we are joined by its curator Professor Gabriele Rossi Rognoni who will discuss some of the collection highlights and his aim to create a welcoming space where schools and families as well as people with dementia, autism and other disabilities can appreciate music in a whole new way.
